This is the time of year for celebrations and we are thrilled to congratulate our newest graduates from the MA, Certificate, and Minor as well as our most recently inducted Honor Society Member! We look forward to hearing about your next steps and your contributions to the world of aging services and the field of gerontology. Now for some housekeeping.

  • If you are graduating, would you please let the program know so that we can transition you to our alumni email list?
  • If you have not already, please join our student/alumni Facebook page. This is a space where job opportunities as well as program and community information of interest to our students and alumni is posted: https://www.facebook.com/groups/14559340417/
  • The summer schedule of classes is available. We have several wonderful opportunities – most of them online. Undergraduate courses can be found here. Graduate courses here. Please reach our to Dr. Turner for graduate advising or Hancock for undergraduate advising.
  • Scholarship opportunities are available through NinerScholar. Graduate Students can apply for the NMR and any gerontology student (grad or undergrad) can apply for the Shenk Gerontology Research Award. Deadline for applications is April 1.
  • Are you going to the Southern Gerontological Society meetings? If you haven’t considered it, you might do so. This is a very comfortable and informative conference and a great way for students to engage with others in the field. There will be a student focused pre-conference event as well. The conference is in Norfolk, VA this year, so very accessible. Dr. Turner and I will be there.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with your questions. Happy Holidays and I hope you find some time to enjoy something wonderful over the break! Dr. Hancock
